MOUNT VERNON — Adele A. Gamble, 84, of North Main Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Mount Vernon to the late Ralph and Aglae (Pierre) Hedges. Adele was a 1944 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. She was employed as a clerk for the former Ringwalts, Guys & Dolls and Fashion Page, all of Mount Vernon.

She is survived by a son, Gary (Deirdre) Frye of Howard; a stepdaughter, Paula (Richard) Payne of Friendswood, Texas; four grandchildren, Lindsay (Todd) Davis, Glenn Frye, Patrick (Kim) Payne and Justin (Jenny) Payne; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan and Lily Davis, Alexcea and Clarice Frye, Eric, Riley and Jimmy Payne; and a brother, Ralph “Bud” Hedges of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gamble; a daughter, Sue Finnell; a stepdaughter, Judy Campos; two grandsons, Chad Bartlett and Chris Bartlett; and a brother, George Hedges.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Karl Stevens will be officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Adele A. Gamble.
