MOUNT VERNON — Velma Louise Davies-Arnold was born in Eugene, Ore., on Feb. 9, 1917, and passed peacefully in the company of those who cared for her at 4:30 a.m. on June 21, 2011.
Velma had lived in Mount Vernon for the last 31 years of her life and was preceded in death by her sisters, Veta Gorman and Virginia Wolfe; brother, Verne E. Davies; and former husband, Clarence E. Arnold.
Velma was a gentle spirit, an excellent cook and baker, loved to garden, enjoyed animals and feathered friends and helping all things grow. She was a member of the City SDA church for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Kasie Alexander; her two grandchildren, Christy S. Alexander of Newark and Damian Alexander of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, both residing in Newark, are Adam T. Alexander, 19, and Carly Louise Alexander, 10; and her remaining brother, Virgil Davies, who resides in Mansfield with his loving family.
Calling hours will be Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 N. Main St., where funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. R. Keith Stuart, Ph.D, officiating. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Davies-Arnold family.
