GREENVILLE, N.C. — Mr. Arthur Samuel “Sam” McMillan, 81, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Jarvis United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery.

Sam, son of the late Arthur Hiram and Verna Staats McMillan, was a native of Knox County, Ohio. A graduate of Danville High School and Ashland College, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked for the public school system in Ohio as a teacher and bus driver. He also had his own insurance agency and loved farming. He was a member of Warsaw United Methodist Church and had attended Jarvis United Methodist Church since 1994.

Sam was a devout family man who dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. His love of animals and tinkering around the farm brought him much joy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Dorothy Shelly; daughter-in-law, Michelle Sasser McMillan; and grandson, Tyler Gene McMillan.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Vi McMillan; children, Arthur Samuel McMillan Jr. and wife, Heidi, Linda McMillan Pritchard and husband, Rodney, Brice Brian McMillan and Eva McMillan Jacobs and husband, David; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of David and Eva Jacobs.
