MANSFIELD — Lawrence W. “Larry” Olson Jr., 88, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at MedCentral in Mansfield.
Larry was born Oct. 17, 1922, in The Plains, Ohio, to Lawrence W. Olson Sr. and Grace (Rankin) Olson. He graduated from The Plains High School and attended Ohio University in Athens. Larry served with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater of War during World War II. On Dec. 1, 1945, he married the love of his life, Ann (Marian) Olson and they spent over 60 years together before her death in July 2006. Larry retired from General Motors, Ontario, in 1992, as supervisor of production scheduling, after 35 1/2 years of faithful service.
He was an avid golfer, and following his retirement, he worked as a starter, at Little Apple Golf Course in Bellville for several years.
Surviving are his son, Lawrence W. (Gloria) Olson III of Mansfield; grandchildren, Tammi Lynn Cameron and Christopher Olson; great-grandchildren, Ashley Howell and Alecia Howell; his sister, Eileen Beebe of Marietta; and close family friends, Juanita Murphy, her son, Nick, and Coleen Haynes, all of Mansfield.
Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Olson; and his brother, Gerald “Jerry” Olson.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at the Lexington Avenue Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 2553 Lexington Ave., Mansfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from noon until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park.
