DANVILLE — James L. Proper, 62, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 4, 1948, in Mount Liberty to the late Macel (Cotton) and Clarence Proper. He was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, and took pride in coaching many sports for Danville athletics over the past 20 years, especially varsity football. He also enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Fair) Proper; his children, Shelly Proper of Huntington, W.Va., Lorraine (Kevin) Davis of Fredericktown, Matthew (Kristen) Proper of Danville, Hillary (Brian) Hess of Bladensburg and Adam (Danielle) Proper of Danville; grandchildren, Chelsea, Hali, Cory, Braylea, Cole, Brode, Ella, Carson, Parker, Brooklynn, Kylee, Tycen, Laney and Sawyer; sisters, Shirley Doup, Carol Crockrell and Alice Davis; brothers, Junior Carter and Gerald Proper; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James Robert Fair.
A funeral service will be Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at the Danville United Methodist Church. The Revs. Jason Humble and Mary Murtha will officiate. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
