MOUNT VERNON — Carles Vance, 74, passed away July 6, 2011, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon surrounded by his family.

He was born March 19, 1937, in Grundy, Va., to the late Henry D. and Mollie Mary Vance. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955-59, and in the Navy Reserves from 1959-62. He was honorably discharged. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, and playing guitar and banjo with his family.

He is survived by his children, Kimberlie (Vance) Fultz, Richard Martin Vance, Shelly (Vance) Tussey, Carla Vance, Terry Vance Grennell and Mary Vance; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Franciss (Vance) Wilguess of Florida; and a brother, Donald Vance of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kelly Vance; brothers, Victor Vance, Roger Vance and Charles Vance; and sisters, Bertha (Vance) Parrish, Oma (Vance) St. John and Christine Vance.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at the Sockman Lake Park Pavilions No. 3-4, Fredericktown.
