WESTERVILLE — LTC Duane A. Slack, USA, Ret., 71, of Westerville, formerly of Sparta, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.

He was born Nov. 27, 1939, in Sparta to the late Fern A. and Norine (Hulse) Slack. He served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. Following his military career he lived near Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He also followed his passion of automobiles, later working as an automobile salesman.

Survived by his wife, Cloya (Scott); daughter, Tammy (Bill) Sabo; son, Stuart Slack; three grandchildren; sister, Judy K. (John) Weaver; brother, Richard D. (Barbara) Slack; nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Larry Carnes officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta.
