FREDERICKTOWN — Wendell T. “Wendy” Furnis, 89, of Old Mansfield Road, Fredericktown, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.

He was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Pickaway County, Ohio, to the late Herman and Ethel Belle (Liston) Furnis. Wendy was employed by and retired from Foote Foundry LLC in Fredericktown. He was an avid Ohio State fan and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Wendy is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Mary (Burton) Furnis; his daughter, Valerie (Herman) Tharp-Shelton of Mansfield; four sons, Mike (Alice) Furnis of Bellville, David (Debbie) Furnis of Coshocton, Chuck Furnis of Fredericktown, John (Tina) Furnis of Texas; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Florence Mohart of Mechanicsburg and Margaret Natrop of Worthington.

Besides his parents, Wendy was preceded in death by his sister, June Hurst; and his brother, Floyd Furnis.

Friends may call Tuesday, July 12, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A service will follow, at the funeral home, beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joe Overholt officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be held in Friendship Cemetery.
