MOUNT VERNON — Charles R. “Chuck” Alberts, 67, of Mount Vernon, passed away July 17, 2011, peacefully at his residence, after a courageous battle with skin cancer.
He was born Jan. 24, 1944, in Knox County to the late Orlo O. and Evelyn D. (Davis) Alberts. Chuck was the former owner/operator of A-1 Excavating Company and had recently worked for Keen Well and Pump. He was a hard worker who prided himself on a long day’s work. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcutting and boating. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty J. (Leedy) Alberts; sons, Richard Alberts and John (Mary Jane “M.J.”) Alberts, both of Mount Vernon; his daughter, Christina (Bryan) Brotherton of Bloomington, Ill.; brothers, Don (Leah) Alberts and Dave (Deb) Alberts, both of Mount Vernon; sisters, Wilma Alberts of Florida, Eva Alberts (Stan) of Brinkhaven and Becky (Jack) Hager of Mount Vernon; and three grandsons, Silas Alberts, and Luke and Grant Brotherton.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary, Ralph and Bob Alberts.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 8764 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bryan Brotherton officiating. Friends may also call on Thursday one hour prior to services at the church. Private burial will be in Amity Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Alberts family.
