COLUMBIA, S.C. — Gene E. Nigh, formerly of Galion and Mount Vernon area, died Thursday morning, July 14, 2011.
Gene was born Nov. 14, 1926, in New Washington, Ohio, to the late Arthur and Ethel (Harp) Nigh.
Gene is survived by his wife, Glendora (Dodie) Holman; four children, Larry (Barb) Nigh of Bucyrus, Dolly Wilson of Upper Sandusky, Randy (Sue) Nigh of Marengo and LouAnn (Howard) Rossington of Bucyrus; stepchildren, Maggie (Bill) Lockett of Columbia, N.C., Tim (Teresa) Holman of Chillicothe, Marcella Holman of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and only surviving brother, Jim Nigh of Galion.
Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Wittibslager; two grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Robert, Cloyd; sisters, Arlene Nye, Merry Krogh, Doris Nigh.
Until retirement, Gene owned and operated Gene Nigh Sandblasting on Monnett New Winchester Road outside Galion. He loved camping and playing cards. He was a former member of Galion First United Church of Christ.
A memorial service by the Rev. Bradley McKibben will be Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at First United Church of Christ in Galion.
