MOUNT VERNON — Ella Francise Pease Hood, 100, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.
She was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Painesville to Effie McMaster and Wallace B. Pease. She graduated from Painesville Harvey High School in 1928. After graduation, Ella attended business school in Cleveland and worked at the Cleveland Better Business Bureau. She married A. Nelson Hood on June 25, 1932.
She worked at the Mentor Monitor for her father-in-law, Alex Hood, and also helped manage the Hood Red Barn Antique Shop on Mentor Avenue in Mentor.
In 1946, she began work as the secretary at the Mentor Village School until its consolidation. She then held various positions for the Mentor Exempted Village School Board until her retirement in 1975. She moved to Deland, Fla., in 1975, and resided there until her husband passed away in 1985.
Mrs. Hood served as Second Reader at the Willoughby Christian Science Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Jane Webster; and brother, Philo.
Survivors include a son, A. Wallace (Irma) of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Kristina Hood of La Belle, Fla.; three grandsons, Lee (Priscilla) of Alliance, Jeffrey (Diane) of Van Wert and Jay (Renee) of Waynesville, N.C.; as well as five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jacob, Kayla, Bryce and Blake Hood.
Mrs. Hood was a member of the Beulah United Methodist Church in Bangs and the United Methodist Women. A memorial service will be held at the church, 8261 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, on Sunday, July 24, at 1 p.m.
