NEWARK — A funeral service for Lois Jean (Gower) Leas, 68, of Newark, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1137 Sharon Valley Road, with Pastor Jim Gau officiating. Burial will follow in Lock Cemetery.

Lois passed away July 28, 2011, at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 22, 1942, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Adrian and Freda (Vaughn) Gower. She graduated from Arcanum High School in 1961 and Columbus Business University in 1961.

She married Ron Leas, her high school sweetheart and loving life partner on Nov. 24, 1962. They worked and farmed in Darke County, Ohio, until 1976, when the family moved to Licking County where they continued to farm. Lois worked for Holophane Company in Utica, Ohio, for 25 years even being called back to work after retirement to teach others her work ethics and “how to do the job” and then when the company moved to Mexico, Lois was sent to teach the new workers. Lois enjoyed also working part-time at J.C. Penney in Mount Vernon. Ron and Lois retired to Newark, Ohio, four years ago.

She is survived by loving children, daughter, Tonia Boudinot of Centerburg; son, Todd and Bev Leas of Newark; daughter, Tiffany and Greg Korns of Newark. Her grandchildren, Mathew and Adrian Boudinot, Forest, Alexandra and Hailey Leas, and Elizabeth Korns, whom she adored and spent much time with — even coming back early from vacation home in Florida to watch ball games, horse shows, cheer-leading, dance recitals.

Lois is also survived by her sister, Debbie (Bob) Flatter, Arcanum, Ohio; and brothers, Keith (Carol) Gower of The Villages, Fla., and Terry (Lisa) Gower of Arcanum, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Jan Watson of Mount Vernon and Judy (Russ) Bennett of New Madison, Ohio; plus many nieces, nephews and friends; as well as special friends, Harold and Holly Riffle of Pensacola, Fla.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, on Sept. 30, 2010, in a tractor accident; and her son-in-law, Trent Boudinot, in a farming accident March 9, 2007.

Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.
