MANSFIELD — Charles Atkins, 82, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Born April 21, 1929, in Hemphill, W.Va., to William R. and Isabelle (Gray) Atkins, he served three years with the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantryman. He worked as a tool and die maker with Therm-O-Disc for more than 30 years.
Survived by his wife, Dyann Atkins; his children, the Rev. Dr. David Atkins, Daniel Atkins, Laurie Kanis, Jane Atkins Hicks and Luke Wheeler; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his first wife, Maryanna Atkins; sister, Roberta Bercaw; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Curtis Atkins and James Atkins; and sisters, Claudine Dye and Elizabeth Jones.
Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. His son, David, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
