RAVENNA — Ruth Irene Strater, 96, of Ravenna, formerly of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, in Ravenna.

Ruth was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Bellville to Arista M. and Leona (Fry) Soliday and graduated from Bellville High School.

Family had been Ruth’s primary interest. A minister’s wife for 50-plus years, she was involved in the Missionary Society, assisting with church socials and weddings both in the church and the home. She was a valuable support to the pastoral responsibilities of her husband. Ruth was a role model for her family. She and her late husband of 62 years, Rev. Charles E. Strater, created a Christian heritage which has passed on from generation to generation. “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”

Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Beverly Dennis of Ravenna, Marjorie Mills of Canadohta Lakes, Pa., and Ruth (Russell) Bailey of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Carsey (Michael) Suedkamp, Cassie (Keith) Bergman, Calley (Don) Rose, Cammy Dennis, Edward “Jum” (Jeannine) Mills, Stacey (Richard “Jake”) Mattocks, Russell “Rusty” (Stacie) Bailey Jr., and Rhonda (Jeffery) Clay; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Jack Soliday, Mabel Hoover, Barbara (Robert) Cunning, and Arthur (Tina) Soliday, all of Mansfield, and Lois Reiner of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Eileen Strater of Bellville; and extended family members, Paul Dennis and Edward Mills.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Charles E. Strater, pastor for 50-plus years and former pastor of the First Church of God in Vincennes, Ind., Kittanning, Pa., and Fredericktown, Ohio; brother Earl (Grace) Soliday; and sisters, Martha (Kenneth) Scott, Ethel (Charles) Hazen and Evelyn (Richard) Long; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Soliday and Helen Doup; and brothers-in-law, Herman Strater and Orland Hoover.

Friends may call Sunday, Aug. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown; and Monday, Aug. 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the First Church of God, 19535 Zolman Road (Route 13 North), Fredericktown. A service giving glory to God and celebrating the life of Ruth Irene Strater will follow at 2 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Richard Prater and Pastor John Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
