MOUNT VERNON — James M. Wheeler, 75, of Mount Vernon, passed away Aug. 15, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born April 14, 1936, to the late David and Gypsie (Thompson) Wheeler.
James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Pelphrey) Wheeler; sons, Steven A. (Judy) Wheeler and Mark A. (Sandy) Wheeler; a daughter, Kelly A. (Jason) Burris; a brother, David Wheeler Jr.; sisters, Georgia Wheeler, Jane Salyer and Lydia Salyer; grandchildren, Jason, Casey, Marla, Maryann and Jacob; and great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alison, Katy, Brooklynn and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby James Wheeler; and two sisters, Bessie Edwards and Billie Jean Cordle.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Forsythe officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help the family with funeral expenses.
