FREDERICKTOWN — Edna L. Howell, 83, of Fredericktown, passed away Aug. 15, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Joe Town, W.Va., to the late Thomas Asa and Lenoma (Montgomery) Wildman. Edna was a military wife who traveled around the world with late husband, Norman. She was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Knox Community Hospital. Edna started her volunteering in military hospitals in Germany as a “gray lady” for the Red Cross. She was also a loving foster parent for many children from 1974-81.

Edna is survived by her children, Marion (Chuck) Coombs of Michigan, Dennis (Julie) Howell of Mount Vernon, Douglas Howell of Marysville and Diane Merritt of Westerville, 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Norman T. Howell; and a son-in-law, Mike Merritt, preceded her in death.

Friends may call Thursday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
