DANVILLE - Louis Arthur Gardner, 95, of Mickley Street, Danville, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at Emeritus at HillenVale in Mount Vernon.
He was born Sept. 21, 1915, in Howard to the late Edward L. and Mary F. (Weaver) Gardner. He was born and raised on his family’s farm, where he lived and worked for over 80 years. He was a hard worker and a great provider for his family, who he loved to spend time with. He was a big supporter of Ohio State athletics, and was an avid golfer and bridge player. He was a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church, was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus, and was a member of the Archeological Society.
He is survived by his wife, Martha “Polly” Gardner of Danville, whom he married Oct. 21, 1944. Also surviving is a son, Edward (Becky) Gardner of Howard; three daughters, Saundra Rowland of Columbus, Jane (Mike) Byles of Howard and Christine (Mike) Billow of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virgilia Arnold and Anna Walters; and three brothers, Cletus, Carl and Frank Gardner.
A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville with the Rev. Father F. Richard Snoke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke Cemetery.
