CENTERBURG — Chalmer White Jr., 87, of Centerburg, died Friday evening, Aug. 19, 2011, at Milcrest Nursing Center in Marysville.
He was born May 3, 1924, in Chillicothe to the late Chalmer Floyd and Viola (Hines) White. Graduate of Croton High School, a World War II Air Force veteran and member of the Centerburg United Methodist Church. Member of Mount Zion Lodge No. 9 F&AM, Aladdin Shrine and Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus 33rd Degree, AMVETS Post 59. He was a retired farmer and truck driver driving for Eastern Motor Dispatch and IML.
Chalmer was a child of the Depression and used everything to its full extent. He loved a good practical joke and although he could be ornery at times he was an understanding and kind hearted man. Chalmer loved his family and missed his wife, Helen, very much. He passed on to his children the work ethic that made him the man that he was and he considered himself a jack of all trades but a master of none.
He is survived by sons, Mike (Nancy) of Marysville, Pat (Taffy) of Centerburg and Chris of Centerburg; daughters, Susie White of Centerburg, Belinda “Lindy” (Todd) Seckerson of Hilliard and Kelly White of Hilliard; grandchildren, Kacy, Coby, Gretchen, Nicole, Jacob, Brendan, Caleb and Austin; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Homer (Arteka) White of Croton.
Preceded by his wife of 60 years, Helen L. White, on Nov. 14, 2010, and they were married Aug. 11, 1950, in Centerburg.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with Masonic service at 8 p.m., at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Centerburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Vicky Kelly officiating. Interment with military services provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Association will follow in the Eastview Cemetery.
