MOUNT VERNON — Mary J. Dickey, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon following a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 3, 1919, in New Castle, Ind., daughter of the late Samuel and Hannah (Kennedy) Smith. Mary was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Susan (Dr. James) Leventry of Mount Vernon, Mary Catherine Lantzas of Annapolis, Md., and Sarah J. (Bill) Cramer of Marion, Ind.; sons, Thomas E. (Terry) Dickey of Annapolis, Md., John W. (Sue) Dickey of Stevensville, Md., Joseph M. (Patty) Dickey of Arnold, Md., and William M. Dickey of Superior, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Mohler of New Castle, Ind.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Morris W. Dickey, in 2008; a sister, Anna Smith; and brothers, Sam, William, Frank and Ted Smith.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with the rosary to be recited following the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
