MOUNT VERNON — John F. Shannon, 74, of Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born April 22, 1937, in Coshocton to the late Frank and Helen (Herman) Shannon. John was employed and retired from Rolls-Royce as an electrical designer after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Mount Vernon First Presbyterian Church. John enjoyed woodworking, genealogy, gardening and being outdoors. But most of all John loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis (Clark) Shannon; his daughter, Elizabeth (Scott) Sheffer of Barrington, Ill.; his son, Greg (Gretchen) Shannon of Columbus; and five grandchildren, Megan Shannon, Kelly Shannon, Molly Shannon, Graham Sheffer and Duncan Sheffer.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Shannon; and his sister, Marilyn Daugherty.
Friends may call Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jonathan Fettig officiating.
