MOUNT VERNON — Jerry Reese Walker of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following a long illness. He was 77.

Jerry was born in Bellville on July 14, 1934, to parents Dale L. and Mary (Sapp) Walker. He was graduated from Bellville High School in 1952 and immediately took a job with General Motors as a tool and dye maker. He took pride in his work and retired from GM after 35 years of service in 1986.

On Oct. 29, 1978, Jerry married Ruth A. Lamneck. He worked hard to provide for the family he loved so dearly.

Jerry was a member of the Mount Vernon Radio Club, the Masonic Lodge and UAW 549.

He was a loyal Cleveland Indians baseball fan all his life and cheered on his Tribe through the good and the bad. He will be remembered as an inspiring Little League coach in Fredericktown. In his spare time he enjoyed being a HAM Radio operator but above all he made watching his cherished grandchildren play sports his number one priority.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 33 years; children, Valerie and Bill Meharry of Pensacola, Fla., Rande Behaler of Fredericktown, Christopher Reese Walker of Mansfield, Cynthia Miller of Mansfield, Constance and Jim Edick of Bladensburg, and Dr. James and Beckie Swetlic of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Biffany, Lucas, Alex, Matt, Chris, Jerrad, Michelle, Summer and Dylan; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sandra and Robert Stewart of Kalamazoo, Mich., Dr. Steven and Marilyn Walker of Lexington, and Dr. Bradley and Becky Walker of Bellville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry’s family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, 81 Mill Road, where the funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Russ Gumm will officiate and burial will be in Bellville Cemetery.
