BUTLER — In the village of Butler, Pauline Beal knew everybody ... and everybody knew her. In addition to being a kind-hearted lifelong area resident who genuinely cared for the folks in her community, it was her business to know everyone: for 15 years she served as postmaster of the Butler Post Office.
A woman woven deep in the fabric of the Butler community, Pauline passed away Friday evening, Sept. 2, 2011, in Lexington Court Care Center. She was 84.
Born Pauline Louise Seymour on Dec. 15, 1926, in Knox County to Paul and Elsie (Frye) Seymour, she graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1944.
An active member of Ankenytown Grace Brethren Church, Pauline served on the board of the Butler-Clear Fork Senior Citizens, was a member of Butler-Clear Fork Historical Society and was an ardent supporter of the Clear Fork Booster Club. Pauline enjoyed reading, traveling and any event that included her family.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Gary and Mary Lou Beal of Bellville, David and Janet Beal of Butler, and Sandy Shaffer of Butler; grandchildren, Luke and Stacey Beal, Rocky and Lynne Beal, Michelle and Randy Laymon, and Angie and Eric Schwegman; stepgrandchildren, Heather Scharver, Donovan Divelbiss and Buck Divelbiss; great-grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Maddie, Grace, Max, Jackson, Macey, Eli and Parker; stepgreat-grandchildren, Nathan, Hailey and Blaine; her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Ron Boner of Uniontown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Dreama Seymour of Orrville and Paul and Carolyn Seymour of Fredericktown; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Leroy Beal in 2000. Also deceased are her daughter-in-law, Patsy Beal; a son-in-law, Frank Shaffer; a sister, Lelia Witzky; and brothers, Bill Seymour and Shorty Seymour.
The Beal family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Ankenytown Grace Brethren Church. Pastor Gary Kochheiser will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
Contributions in her memory to Ankenytown Grace Brethren Church or Butler-Clear Fork Senior Citizens may be made at the funeral home.
