AMELIA, Va. — Former Lexington resident Raymond L. Eckels, 79, of Amelia, Va., passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011.

He retired from U.S. Air Force, and had worked as an engineer with United Telephone Co. in Mansfield and formerly managed TDS Telephone Co. in Amelia.

He is survived by his wife, Graham Eckels; his son, Brad Eckels of Amelia; daughters, Linda (Tom) Pfizenmayer of Lexington, Diane (Steve) Kalliantas of Powell, Deborah (Greg) Owens of Mansfield and Elaine Eckels of Mansfield; a stepdaughter, B.G. Borum of Jetersville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Eckels was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna L. (Graffius) Eckels; and son, David Eckels.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Friday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. in Oak Grove Memorial Park, near Lexington. Pastor Rick Nuzum will officiate.
