NEWARK — A funeral service for Roy Weaver Robson, 87, of Newark, will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veteran Alliance prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Fairmont Cemetery.

Roy passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, in Newark at his residence. He was born April 13, 1924, in Mount Vernon to the late Charles E. and Hazel M. (Richardson) Robson.

Roy served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy. He worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass as a glass cutter for 17 years before taking employment with Foster Pharmacy, from which he retired after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Newark Moose 499, where he was an avid horseshoe pitcher for 15 years, the American Legion Post 85 and the VFW Post 1060.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie R. (Cross) Robson; three stepdaughters, Katherine (Dale) Knotts of Columbia Station, Susan (Rick) Ruhl of Davenport, Fla., and Roberta Hengartner of Elyria; a stepson, Ron (Shelia) Tomblin of Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Donna) Robson of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Jimmy Robson; an infant son and an infant daughter.

Friends may call an hour prior to the service on Thursday, from 4-5 p.m., at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark. A Moose service will take place at 4:45 p.m.
