MOUNT VERNON — Genevieve M. Cubie, 85, of Mount Vernon, passed away Sept. 8, 2011, at Emeritus at HillenVale.
She was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Nashville, Tenn., to the late Lee and Sallie (Carter) McMackin. Genevieve was a member of the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene. She was a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University with a BA in Religion; Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., with an M. Div; Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.; Masters in Literature from Northeastern University in Boston; and received her PhD in English Literature from Ohio State University.
Genevieve was an English Literature Professor at Mount Vernon Nazarene University for 17 years, retiring in 1988.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, David L. Cubie; sons, Lee (Audra) Cubie of Gambier and David Cubie Jr. (Ginger Moore) of Newville, Pa.; daughters, Catherine (Gerald) Mays of Woodbridge, Va., and Sallie (Thomas) Fuller of Danby, N.Y.; a sister, Mary McMackin, and a brother, Joseph (Nelda) McMackin, both of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Ian, Alexander, Robert, Genevieve, Thomas, James, William, Grace, Adalia and Nadine; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a half brother, Bowman Sanders; and a half sister, Margarete Sanders.
Friends may call Monday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Sharpes officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Cubie family.
