MOUNT VERNON — Shirley A. Wayne Skal, 75, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Worthington to the late Frank and Ann (Conway) Zeigler. Shirley retired from Kenyon College food services. She was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, AMVETS Post 95 and Loyal Order of the Moose. Shirley enjoyed photography, sewing, fishing and working in the flower garden on her award-winning sunflowers.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Skal; a son, David (Kim) Wayne of Fredericktown; stepdaughter, Karen (Randy) Williams of Pataskala, and other numerous stepchildren; two grandchildren, Maggie Wayne and Griffin Wayne; numerous stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Julia) Zeigler of Beverly Hills, Fla.; a niece, Cheryl Lang; two nephews, Stan Zeigler and Bob (Ann) Zeigler; and special friends, Marianna Seittle, Yats Singleton and Jean Zeigler.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Tarlton “Toby” Wayne.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Thom Fowler will be officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.
