MOUNT VERNON — Betty Gardner-Carper, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 9, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
She was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Licking County to the late Emerson and Edith (Clutter) McGruder. Betty was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Order of the Eastern Star Knox Chapter 236.
She is survived by her four sons, Lee Gardner of Hurst, Texas, Dr. William (Barbara) Gardner of Akron, Don (Dorothy) Gardner of Euless, Texas, and Sam (Karen) Gardner or Cartersville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine (Lyle) King of Granville; and four stepchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, T. Randall Gardner; second husband, Robert Carper; daughter-in-law, Sharon Gardner; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Dorothy McGruder.
Friends may call Sunday, Sept. 11, 2 to 4 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, with Dr. Joe Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
