TYLER, Texas — A memorial service will be held honoring the life of Robert H. Arnholt on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville. Arnholt, former chief pilot for Cooper Industries, passed away suddenly at his home in Tyler, Texas, on June 19, 2011. He was born near Nashville, Ohio, on April 28, 1919. He graduated high school in Loudonville in 1937, and from Miami University in 1941.

He began his career as a pilot after the Civilian Pilot Training program was introduced at Miami University. He has held a commercial pilot’s license and instructor rating since 1941. He served with Pan American Airways during its involvement with setting up a series of air bases across Africa and participated in flying refugees to safety during the evacuation of Cairo in June 1942.

He later enlisted in the Naval Reserves as a flight instructor and pilot, retiring in 1979. In 1966, Arnholt became chief pilot for Cooper-Bessmer and later Cooper Industries after working with Richland Aviation Inc., and the Arnholt poultry business. He retired as head of the Aviation Department at Cooper Industries in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; and son, Gary.

He was survived by sister, Janice Wolf of San Antonio; daughter, Maureen Goodwin and husband, Paul, of Cortland, N.Y.; son, Stephen Arnholt and wife, Roslyn, of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Judith Curtis and husband, Robert of Galena, Ohio; grandsons, Michael (Lydia) Curtis of Columbus and Patrick (Christine) Curtis of Galena; great-grandson, Jack Curtis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

After the service, burial of the cremated remains of both Robert and his late wife, Jane, will be in the Loudonville cemetery, followed by a reception for friends and family at the church. Memorials can be made in his honor to the Zion Lutheran Church, 222 Main St., Loudonville, OH 44842.
