MOUNT VERNON — Marcella J. Fulton Atkinson, 75, of Taylor Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born Oct. 17, 1935, in Sparta to the late Russell and Ruby (Hively) Fulton. Marcella was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Dogwood Blossoms Chapter of Sweet Adelines International, both in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Atkinson Jr., whom she married on Aug. 29, 1958; a son, Greg (Maureen) Atkinson of Xenia; a daughter, Dena (Jim) Quinn of Colorado; five grandchildren, Justine, Hannah, Ian and Ben Ackerman and James Quinn; and son-in-law, Terry Ackerman of Waldo.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Ackerman; a twin sister, Ardella Fulton; and a brother, Robert Fulton.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1010 Beech St., Mount Vernon. Bishop Roger Packer will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church two hours before the funeral service.
