HOWARD — Icyle M. Feltman, of Howard, passed away Sept. 15, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home where she had been a patient for over one and a half years.
Icyle was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Glouster, Ohio, to Steve and Elizabeth (Johnson) Craig. After finishing high school there, she moved to Zanesville and married Ralph White in 1942. She graduated from beauty school in Newark, then owned and operated her own beauty shop in Zanesville.
Before her marriage to Elvin, as a single, truly dedicated mother, her “profession” was in keeping a beautiful home and providing for her children. She did a wonderful job in teaching her children great spiritual values along with great cooking and homemaking skills.
Icyle worked in the Bethesda Hospital and Physicians’ Group Practice offices in Zanesville, Ohio, and Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md. She later worked in the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus. She retired from there and married Dr. Elvin Feltman Jr. on Nov. 28, 1983, and moved to Norwalk, Ohio.
After Dr. Feltman’s retirement in 1991, they bought a home in Tucson, Ariz., where they lived for 13 winters. In 2004, they sold their Arizona home and relocated to Apple Valley to be closer to their children.
Icyle is survived by her husband, Elvin, her children, Sandra (Charles) Richards of Apple Valley, Jayne (Dr. James) Todd of Dalton, Ga., Capt. Alan (Marina) White of Ooltewah, Tenn.; stepsons, David Feltman of Loma Linda, Calif., John (Karen) Feltman of Mount Vernon, Don (Rebecca) Feltman of Vienna, Va.; her sister, Adrienne Jago of Florida; her grandchildren, Barbara Richards Carroll, Kim Richards Cody, Missy (Todd) Bowlin, Justin Feltman, Kevin Feltman, Ryan Feltman, Carrie Todd Patrick, Tim Todd, Abigail White, Sam White; three great-grandchildren; a special friend, Dreama Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Samuel Craig, Carl Craig and Errett Johnson; and one grandson, Chuckie Richards.
Friends may call Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 3 p.m., with Pastor Fred Shoemaker of Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church, of which she was a member.
Our heart-felt thanks goes to Dr. Fred Carroll, the staff of Eastern Star Home, Odyssey Hospice and Dreama Thompson for their skilled and compassionate help.
We also thank the following pastors for their visits and prayers: Fred Shoemaker, Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church; and Ken Springer and Don Lind of the Mount Vernon Central Christian Church.
