MOUNT VERNON — Leonard D. “Joe Collins” Bowman, 52, of Mount Vernon, passed away Sept. 12, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 10, 1959, in Baltimore, Md., to George W. and Vida (Hester-Stiltner) Bowman. Joe was a member of the Central Church of Christ, where he sang in the 3C Harmony. He was the radio personality for the Tradio Show and the host of The Old Country Church, both on WMVO Radio.
He was involved in “Leave-m-Laughin” play and the Mount Vernon Players “The Odd Couple.” Joe loved to play guitar, was a skilled illusionist and an auctioneer. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He believed he was put on this earth to make people laugh. He will be remembered as always having an encouraging word.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Marissa Stevens; his son, Wayne Bowman; special friend, Joann; brothers, Ray Jesse and Garnie Lee Bowman; sister, Drema Ann Turner; two grandsons; and his former wife, Sherry Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lonnie “Shane” Vanover; and his grandparents.
There will be no public services for Joe. The Old Country Church Show will be in his memory on Sunday, Sept. 18, at noon on 1300 WMVO.
The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
