AKRON — Joseph A. Burns, 54, of Akron, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at The Ohio State Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born March 13, 1957, in Columbus to Willard Burns and Joan (Shockley) Myers. He was an electrical technician for the U.S. Postal Service and thoroughly enjoyed his job. Joseph was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Survived by his mother and father, Joan and Paul L. Myers Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla.; brothers, Willard Burns of Newark, Jack Burns of Roseville, Jim Burns of Roseville, Jay (Kimberly) Burns of Ashley, Paul David Myers of Canal Winchester; sisters, Pam (Doug) Coldren of Westerville, Mary Jo Myers of Gahanna; half brother, Andrew Burns of Mount Vernon; special nieces, Megan and Katie Burns; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, with the Rev. Paul L. Myers Jr. officiating. Interment with military services will follow in the Ashley Union Cemetery.
