CENTERBURG — Gerald L. “Jerry” Bailey, 67, of Centerburg, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 2011, at his home.

He was born May 6, 1944, in Nitro, W.Va., to the late Arnold Bailey and Ethel Covert Bailey of Nitro, W.Va. He was a retired electrical inspector for the state of Ohio, also retired from the IBEW 683 and owner of Bailey’s Tree Farm, Johnstown and Centerburg. He was a Vietnam era U.S. Air Force veteran, member of the National Christmas Tree Growers Association and the International Harvester Collectors Club.

Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a Southern Gospel soloist singing at churches, festivals and fairs in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Florida. Jerry was a lover of nature and growing things and had the title of Mr. Green Thumb. He held several awards from the state and local fair and the Centerburg Farmers Festival for things he had grown.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anita (Price) Bailey and they were married April 23, 1971, in Columbus; daughters, Sherri Johnson (Eddie Clark) of New Albany and Terri Bailey of Pataskala; son, John (Jill) Bailey of Centerburg; grandchildren, Kacey Kline, Sierra and Johnathan Bailey; brother, Tom (Janet) Bailey of Glenville, W.Va.; and sister, Kathy (James) McPherson of Hurricane, W.Va.

Friends may call Friday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Centerburg Christian Church, 33 E. Church St., Centerburg, with the Revs. George Jordan and Bill Fulda officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery with military graveside services by the Knox County Veterans Association.
