CARDINGTON — Geneva L. Witzel, 89, of Marion-Cardington Road East, Cardington, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 30, 2011, at her home.

She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Richland Township, Marion County, to the late Albert K. and Lydia (Matthes) Ault. Geneva was a 1940 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and had worked as a clerk at J.C. Penny’s for over 25 years. She was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church. On June 22, 1941, in Richland Township, Geneva married Herbert Witzel and he preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1983.

Surviving Geneva are her children, Stanley H. Witzel of Marion and Linda (Kenneth) Seitz of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Jerry Witzel of Bucyrus, Terry (Misty) Witzel of Marion, and Lori (David) Luna and Lisa Myers, both of Mount Vernon; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Franklin Ault.

In addition to her parents and husband, Geneva was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Janice Witzel; brothers, Lewis, Virgil and Cloyse Ault; and sisters, Flossie Ault, Alfreda Sulser and Idella Sparks.

Friends may call Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. Adam Sornchai will officiate and the burial will follow in the church cemetery.
