CENTERBURG — Gertrude Ramey, 88, of Centerburg, died Monday morning, Oct. 3, 2011, at her residence.

She was born May 8, 1923, in Centerburg to the late John Harold and Florence (Beever) Shipley. A graduate of Centerburg High School and member of Centerburg United Methodist Church. Member of the Friendship Circle at the church, Alpha Club, Dogwood Blossoms Chapter of Sweet Adelines, Red Hatters and former member of Manila Chapter of OES. Retired school bus driver for Centerburg Schools, homemaker and farm wife. Member of the Heart of Ohio Grange and Farm Bureau Council.

Gertrude was very proud of her family and enjoyed taking trips with them to Dale Hollow Lake and Lake Houghton. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren playing sports and liked to watch The Ohio State Buckeyes. Gertrude played piano and organ and was the organist at the church for a time.

Survived by her son, Donald (Becky) Ramey of Centerburg; daughter, Sandra (Mark) Hankins of Centerburg; grandchildren, Kelley (John) Mead, Traci (Robert) Thomas, Gretchen Ramey, Zachariah (Heather) Hankins and Sheena (Travis Yoakam) Hankins; great-grandchildren, Dakota and Braxton Mead, Jacob and Aubrey Thomas; sister, Cathy (Ron) McMillen of Mount Vernon; and special friend, Bob Stewart.

Preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ramey, on Nov. 6, 2004; and great-grandson, Frank Thomas.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Centerburg United Methodist Church, 65 S. Hartford Ave., Centerburg, with Pastor Vicky Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
