MOUNT VERNON — Brad C. Lukens, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away Oct. 9, 2011, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in New Haven, Conn., to the late Donley D. and Agnes (Carlson) Lukens. Brad was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Mount Zion Lodge 9 Masonic Lodge, Aladdin Shrine and Baldwin Shrine Club. Brad also volunteered for several Habitat for Humanity projects.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Lukens; two daughters, Laurel (Tony) Baumann of Liberty, Maine, and Janice (Randal) Bryant of Pittsburgh, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two stepchildren, Gary Prushing and Jenny Sutcliffe.

Brad was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Lukens, in 1984; a son, Jay Phelps Lukens; brother, DeWitt J. Lukens; and a half brother, Warren Lukens.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date and will be announced in the Mount Vernon News. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Lukens family.
