MOUNT VERNON — Paul Richard Lepley, 80, of East Gambier Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus from complications from a fall.

He was born May 8, 1931, in Mount Vernon to the late Clare and Loraine (White) Lepley and was a lifelong resident of Knox County. Paul was a 1949 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. He was a 34-year employee of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in Mount Vernon and Creighton, Pa., retiring in 1982.

Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict, receiving the Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Paul enjoyed playing golf in his younger years, loved talking politics, current events and sports. He loved the NFL, Major League Baseball and college sports.

Paul was a member of the VFW, AMVETS and Moose Lodge, all in Mount Vernon.

He is survived by his sister, Jean Johnson of Ashland; cousin and caregiver, Roger Marra of Mount Vernon; aunt, Jessie White of Mount Vernon; nephew, Stephen Johnson of Westerville; nieces, Jill (Dwight) Walker and Julie (Steve) Uhler, all of Ashland; great-nephew, Cody Uhler, and great-niece, Carrie Uhler, both of Ashland. Paul is also survived by several cousins and close friends, Joe and Frieda Metcalfe, Gene and Beverly Evans and Rosa Hogg. Paul will also be remembered fondly by his two favorite VFW girls, Vicky Massa and Jody Slaughter.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Don Johnson, who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside funeral services with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Mound View Cemetery with the Rev. Denise Marikis officiating.
