MOUNT VERNON — Norma K. Long, formerly of Bellville, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 12, 2011, in Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon. She was 86.

Born Norma Katherine Lamm on Feb. 6, 1925, in Somerville, to Chester and Wilhelmina (Kessen) Lamm, she was graduated from Oxford High School in 1943. Later that year, on Sept. 9, she married William L. Long.

Norma was a woman of strong faith, resolute in her Christian principles, and was a staunch member of Clear Fork Wesleyan Church. As a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a true matriarch to her family, loving and serving them with unconditional love.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Joseph Smithberger of Mount Vernon; her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin W. and Carol Long of Surprise, Ariz.; grandchildren, Seth and Dorothea Henderson of Annapolis, Md., and Chad and Kris Henderson of North Canton; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Liam, Ally and Kate; and a brother, John Lamm of Eaton.

Her husband, William, preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1995. Also deceased are her sisters, Dorothy Doans and Bernice Harris.

Her family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. James C. Carder will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory are encouraged to the Alzheimer’s Association, and may be made at the funeral home.
