MOUNT VERNON — Helen J. Gast Towers, 95, of Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Lima to the late Frank and Johanna (Kohler) Bosch. Helen worked 27 years as a clerk for Pangles Grocery Store in Lima. She enjoyed camping, square dancing, cooking and even water skied at the age of 82. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her children, Chester (Ann) Gast Jr. of Spencerville, Rodney (Koneta) Gast of Huntington, W.Va., Karen (Raymond) McClure of Mount Vernon and Linda (Dennis) Martz Traynor of Fort Jennings; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Harold McQuire) Towers of Pittsburgh; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bill (Mary Lou) Gast of Ada; sister-in-law, Janet Gast of Dayton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Wilson Gast Sr.; her second husband, David Quentin Towers; two brothers, Edward Bosch and Frank Bosch; and a sister, Emma Bice.
Friends may call Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lima Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Mrs. Sami Luna Hunnicut will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Helen J. Gast Towers.
