MOUNT VERNON — Genevieve A. Bechtel, 91, of Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the Emeritus at HillenVale.
She was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Knox County to the late LeRoy and Ruth (Lepley) Butcher. Genevieve was a 1938 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and in 1946 she earned her B.A. degree in Education from Ohio University. Genevieve worked as a teacher in Johnstown and Mount Vernon school districts before retiring and becoming a substitute in the Clear Fork and Fredericktown school districts. She was a member of the Knox County Retired Teachers Association, a life member of the FFA, North Liberty Garden Club and the North Liberty United Methodist Church, where she served as district officer for the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by three sons, Larry (Penny) Bechtel of Fredericktown, Steve (Vicki) Bechtel of Fredericktown and Curt Bechtel of Fredericktown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bruce (Alice) Butcher of Utica.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bechtel; a son, Dennis Bechtel; a brother, John Butcher; and a sister, Jeraldine Martin.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. The Rev. Allen Rose will be officiating. Burial will follow in Ankenytown Cemetery.
