MOUNT VERNON — Nancy W. McCalla, 86, of Mount Vernon, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.
Nancy was born April 14, 1925, in Huntington, W.Va., to Sylvester Wilgus Wylie and Minnie Agnes (Wells) Wylie. She graduated from high school in Huntington and attended Marshall University for three years. Nancy was a faithful employee of the Mount Vernon YMCA for 16 years.
She was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon and the Knox Chapter 236 Order of Eastern Star in Mount Vernon, where she was past Worthy Matron and served as secretary for 17 years.
Surviving are her husband, Boyd C. “Bud” McCalla; daughters, Carolyn (Nick) Finke of Wyoming, Ohio, and Charlotte (Ian) Watson of Mount Vernon; her son, Dean (Cody) Donaldson of Mount Vernon; and a stepson, Mark (Dennie) McCalla of Hong Kong; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester William Wylie.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where the Knox Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a memorial service following the calling hours. A service celebrating the life of Nancy W. McCalla will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Karl Stevens. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery.
