MOUNT VERNON — Charles Edward “Sonny” Boyd Jr., 64, of Graham Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1947, in Zanesville to the late Charles Boyd and Gladys (Hagans) Boyd Sr. Sonny served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie (Carson Webb) Boyd of Mount Vernon; a grandson, Cody Myers; two great-grandchildren, Jayla Myers and Blaze Compton; six brothers, Dennis Boyd of Mount Vernon, Barry (Connie) Boyd of Mount Vernon, Clay (Susan) Boyd of Butler, Dariel Boyd of Mount Vernon, Dale (Jodi) Boyd of Mount Vernon and Dean Boyd of Tiffin; two sisters, Brenda Hermani of Mount Vernon and Denise Boyd of Mount Vernon; and bother-in-law, Edward Smith of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Smith; and his stepmother, Marilyn Boyd.

A memorial service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church with Major Robert Bender officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service at a later date.
