HOWARD — Chester R. Lembcke, 94, of Coshocton Road, Howard, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Emeritus at HillenVale.

He was born March 17, 1917, in Ramona, S.D., to the late Rheinold and Bertha (Lebahn) Lembcke. Chester was employed as the Postmaster in Ramona, S.D., for many years. He was a 66-year member of the American Legion Post 216 in Ramona and was a member of the Fredericktown, Ohio, Seventh-day Adventist Church. Chester was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa, Germany, France and Italy.

He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Mitchell of Howard; his son, Chester L. (Karen) Lembcke of Paradise, Calif.; five grandchildren, Chad (Nona) Mitchell, Kimberly (Aaron) Myers, Christopher Mitchell, Eric (Kristen) Lembcke and Holly Lembcke; three great-grandchildren, Rachel Mitchell, Nicholas Myers and Noah Myers; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Lembcke; his son-in-law, Lee Mitchell; three sisters, Blanche Meyer, Angeline Kasch and Myrtle Riedel; and four brothers, Virgil, Herb, Elmer and Clayton Lembcke.

Friends may call Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Weiland Funeral Chapel, 320 N. Egan Ave., Madison, SD 57042. A funeral service will be held, at the funeral chapel, on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Don Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Ramona City Cemetery.
