CENTERBURG — Eugene M. Brown, 80, of Centerburg, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 7, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Portsmouth, son of the late Albert and Arizona (Waddell) Brown Sr. Eugene was a retired truck driver from Western Craft Williamette Industries. He was a Marine veteran having served during the Korean conflict and a life member of the AMVETS in Centerburg. Eugene was an Amateur Radio Operator for many years. He was also a beekeeper and known in the Centerburg area as the Honey Man.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Magdalene (Reott) Brown, whom he married Dec. 26, 1975; daughters, Tracy (Dave Frase) Brown of Glenford, Kelly (Shawn) Coontz of Bladensburg and Gene Ann (Donald) Moore of Washington Court House; grandchildren, Kristopher Hollenbeck, Justin Crowe, Corey Crowe, Dylan Frase, Arianna Coontz, Noah Coontz and Nicole Brown; great-granddaughter, Emmaleigh Crowe; and a brother, Albert (Martha) Brown Jr. of Portsmouth.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by a son, David Michael Brown; and a sister, Helen Harris.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be Monday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg. Military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council at the funeral home following the funeral on Monday.
