MOUNT VERNON — Raymond Lewis Fiant, 95, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.
Raymond was born July 22, 1916, in Marion County to George Singer Fiant and Clara (Squibb) Fiant. He was a lifetime farmer, plus owned and operated a public harness racing stable. Raymond was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Ohio State and U.S. Trotters Associations.
Surviving are his daughters, Lois Shaffer of Aurora and Bonnie (Sheldon) Eggleston of Canton; sons, Ken (Carole) Fiant of Gambier, John (Mary Jo) Fiant of Akron and Carl Fiant of Mount Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Mary Fiant Layfield; 13 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Lee) Fiant, on Jan. 16, 2011; a son, Paul Fiant; and a brother, Walter Fiant.
Friends may call Sunday, Nov. 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
