MOUNT VERNON — Nellie F. Billman, 88, of Snowden Avenue, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at the Ohio State University Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Snowhill, Md., to the late George and Gertrude (Dryden) Figgs. Nellie was employed at Newark Telephone Co. as an operator and later AMG Industries in Mount Vernon as a machine operator. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladybug Red Hatters and the Faith Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Cordelia “Corky” (Paul) Mitchell of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Vickie, Rick, Tammy, Tony, Albree (Alex Tittle), special grandson Jim Farrell; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Roy (Julia) Figgs of Westover, Md., Morris (Gladys) Figgs of Westover, Md., William (Laura) Figgs of Snowhill, Md., Robert (Retha) Figgs of Snowhill, Md.; her sister, Linda (Danny) Taylor of Snowhill, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Billman; her daughter, Carol Ann Wiseman; her grandson, Christopher Wiseman; and two sisters, Doris Figgs and Lola Matthews.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home (619 E. High St., Mount Vernon) and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow calling hours on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Doug Forsythe and Kenneth Figgs officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
