MOUNT VERNON — Robert W. Frank, 89, of Teryl Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.
He was born June 17, 1922, in Danville, to the late Walter and Rosella (Richert) Frank. He retired from the Flxible Co. in Loudonville and worked as a farmer. Robert was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He served as a Brown Township Trustee and was a life-long member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Jelloway and served the church in a variety of capacities. For the past 20 years, Robert also attended the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, served as a volunteer for Interchurch Social Services and bowled in many leagues in Mount Vernon.
He is survived by his wife, Irene (Flecknoe) Shannon Frank; three sons, Stephen (Nancy) Frank of Cincinnati, John (Kathy) Frank of Fredericktown, Andrew (Sue) Frank of Lewis Center; two daughters, Rosemary (Lynn) Tharaldson of Lakeville, Minn., Barbara (Bill) Anderson of Zanesville; three stepsons, Chuck (Julie) Shannon of Fredericktown, David (Ronda) Shannon of Georgia, Frank (Dawn) Shannon of Mount Vernon; three stepdaughters, Mary Jane (Jack) Schlairet of Mount Vernon, Kathy Raby of Ashland and Vicky (Eric) Massa of Mount Vernon; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two on the way; three brothers, Myron Frank of Sidney, Ohio, Wayne (Charlotte) Frank of Danville, Harold Frank of California; and a sister, Mary Frank of Danville.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Conkle) Frank; two granddaughters; seven brothers, David Frank, Theodore Frank, Raymond Frank, Delmar Frank, Clovis Frank, Richard Frank and Blayne Frank.
Friends may call Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Jelloway. The Revs. Warren Outhwaite and Ed Winkler will be officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Zion Cemetery.
