HOWARD — Goldie C. Elswick, 84, of Howard, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at her residence following an extended illness.

Goldie was born May 22, 1927, in Grundy, Va., to William and Eva (Davis) Van Dyke. Goldie was a member of the Covenant Christian Church of God in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are her daughters, Shirley Moody of Howard and Barbara “Bobbie” Elswick of Davenport, Fla.; grandchildren, Roger Moody Jr., Travis Moody, Arlesa Harriman and Nathaniel Elswick; 11 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Gertrude (Andrew) Deskins of Caledonia and Nell Slone of Statesville, N.C.

Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
