COLUMBUS — Jane Maude (Pruett) Pursley, 94, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus.

She was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Russell County, Va., to Joseph and Mollie Pruett. She graduated with honors from Centerburg High School in Centerburg. She later graduated from Lillian Johnson Cosmetology School and owned Jeanette Beauty Salon in Columbus. Jane served for two years in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) of the U.S. Army from September 1943 to November 1945. She was honored with the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the WAAC (Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps) Service Ribbon. After attending office training school, she worked at John Hancock Life Insurance from which she retired.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Raymond Richard Pursley Jr.; brother, Thurman Pruett; and sisters, Wilma Dyck and Pauline Palmer.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Y. Pursley, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be held today, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. in Union Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger North Chapel.
