GAINESVILLE, Fla. — George R. Ruark, 88, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday morning Dec.14, 2011, in Gainesville, Florida.
He was born May 8, 1923, in Vanceburg, Ky. to the late Robert and Vina (Moore) Ruark. He was a WWII US Army Veteran and a retired greenskeeper for Blackhawk Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha (Bloomfield) Ruark, whom he married Dec. 28, 1941; sons, George (Linda) of Mount Vernon, Larry of Mount Vernon, Bill (Janet) of Sunbury and Darrell (Nannette) of Marengo; daughters, Connie (Kevin) Smith of Mount Vernon and Wanda Pittman of Mount Vernon; son-in-law, Terry Traxler; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and brother, Jim Ruark of Ky.
Preceded in death by daughter, Linda Traxler; granddaughter, Jody Traxler; brothers, Willard, Melby, Bobby and Sam; sisters, Margarette Boone and Evelyn Cooper; son-in-law, Eddie Pittman and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Geshwilm Ruark.
A memorial service will be held in the spring and arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
